November 18th<\/sup>, 2024. <\/strong>Arnaiz, a leading firm in urban planning and global real estate development, through the technology company Urbim\u00e1tica, has developed a specific geoportal on the Isolated Depression at High Atmospheric Levels that has affected the Valencian Region, which integrates geographic data and maps of the highest interest in an accessible visualisation environment. This geoportal aims to contribute to the region’s restoration efforts, as well as to facilitate risk management through a single platform that centralises information from various key sources.<\/p>\n

The geoportal https:\/\/urbigis.com\/danavalencia.maps<\/a> allows users to visualise geographic information in an overlaid manner, with transparency options and customisation in the order of layers activation, offering a clear visualisation on different cartographic maps and aerial photographs. The geoportal integrates more than 70 maps from key sources such as the Generalitat de Val\u00e8ncia<\/em>, the J\u00facar Hydrographic Confederation, the Ministry of Ecological Transition’s National Floodplain Mapping System, Spain\u2019s National Geographic Institute, the University of Valencia, the Copernicus Programme of the European Union and NASA.<\/p>\n

One of the conclusions drawn from the published layers is that the areas flooded by the storm surge do not coincide with the predicted areas of 500-year flood risk or extraordinary conditions, published according to the studies carried out. This suggests that it would be advisable to improve or update the predictive hydrological models by applying artificial intelligence algorithms.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u2018This platform reduces the complexity of access to information because it unifies it, facilitates usability and, above all, enables predictive diagnosis in the context of natural disasters such as the one that occurred in the Valencia Region. UrbiGIS simplifies critical information for risk management planning, disaster relief and restoration efforts. At the same time, it allows the download of essential information on catastrophes and risks, promoting better preparedness and knowledge of the impact of natural events in their areas,\u2019 <\/em>explains Ignacio Arnaiz, general manager of Urbim\u00e1tica.<\/p>\n

Arnaiz’s initiative is in line with its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy, focused on contributing to society through the Arnaiz Institute and the companies in its group, sharing knowledge, experience and technology developed over 50 years. UrbiGIS, with more than 2.5 million global maps, has led key projects such as Spain-wide Urban Planning Online and Geomadrid<\/em>, and collaborates with Urban Maps of different Autonomous Regions, including Valencia, digitising data from municipalities affected by the floods caused by the recent Isolated Depression at High Atmospheric Levels.<\/p>\n
