Leopoldo Arnaiz participates in a congress on municipalities and public policy in Mexico City

December 16th, 2024. Leopoldo Arnaiz, executive president of the Latin American Federation of Municipalities (FLACMA), recently participated in the ‘IV International Congress: Challenges of public policies in the current scenario. Retrospectives and diagnoses for the new government in Mexico’, which took place on the 7th and 8th of November of 2024 at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Unidad Azcapotzalco (Mexico City, Mexico).

Arnaiz led a keynote lecture entitled ‘Municipal Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Programme, Latin America’, in which he addressed the importance of implementing local strategies aligned with the SDGs to promote sustainable development in the region.

The Congress organisers underlined the contribution of Leopoldo Arnaiz to this international event, given his five decades of experience in the fields of architecture and urban planning at a global level, especially in Spain.

During the Congress, public policy experts, civil servants, academics and municipal leaders from different countries shared perspectives on current challenges and solutions to strengthen local governance in the Latin American context.

FLACMA, the organisation of which Leopoldo Arnaiz is the president of its Advisory Council, brings together more than 16,000 municipalities and local governments in Latin America and the Caribbean, including more than 30 territorial associations of municipalities. This international network works to improve local development and strengthen cooperation between municipal governments and is a crucial platform for promoting innovation and best practices in the region.

Leopoldo Arnaiz’s participation in this event reaffirms his commitment to strengthening municipalities as key actors for sustainable development and improving the quality of life in Latin American communities.
